Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
During his working visit to Brussels, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met President of the European People's Party (EPP) Wilfried Martens on June 28. The press service of the Armenian President told ArmInfo that the meeting covered the prospects for expansion of the cooperation between the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the EPP, as well as consolidation of relations between Armenia and the European Union and implementation of multilateral reforms in Armenia.
In Brussels Sargsyan also attended the EPP's summit. In his speech Sargsyan stressed the importance of the negotiations on the Association Agreement, Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement and Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreement.
The president also presented the current stage of the Karabakh peace process and said that the provocative actions of Azerbaijan hinder the progress. He said that Armenia is ready to resolve the problem by means of negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group on the basis of international law.
Serzh Sargsyan also thanked the EPP leadership for including three Armenian parties in the EPP - the RPA, Heritage Party and Orinats Yerkir Party as observers. He said that this step will stimulate the European integration process and promotion of the cooperation. Serzh Sargsyan also touched on one of the most urgent topics - the problem of the Eurozone. He stressed that the Euro crisis seriously threatens not only the integration processes, but also the world economy in general.
