"Ameria" Management Advisory Services" company has launched a new project entitled "Economic Modeling and Feasibility" aimed at developing small-scale gardening in Armenia.
As "Ameria" press-office has told ArmInfo the project is being implemented within the framework of the program "Creation of Agricultural Potential" of the "Rural Areas Economic Development Programme Implementation Unit" State Institution. The project "Economic Modeling and Feasibility" is aimed at poverty reduction in rural areas particularly by the boost of the production of fruit and nut crops.
Within the framework of the project plans call for the development of a loan product aimed at funding the production of approximately seven fruit and nut crops that grow in Armenia and have a high return potential. The purpose-loan product will provide petty farm businesses with the opportunity of acquiring wherewithal on easy terms from the project-participant financial organizations.
"Almost every single agricultural zone in Armenia is engaged in fruit production. Fruit export occupies a good share in the Armenian export market. There is a great demand for fruit and nuts both in the local and international markets. This project can significantly foster farming industry, as well as increase the number of competitive and stable farming businesses", said Arman Porsughyan, the Senior Consultant at Management Advisory Services.
The survey figures that since 2010 farming industry looms large in Armenia's GDP and its growth. Farming industry procures 45% of labour in Armenia. At the same time approximately 70% of Armenian farming businesses are small (on average 1.3 hectares of land). According to the source, the project "Economic Modeling and Feasibility" is aimed at this very target group. The project is mainly envisaged for farming businesses located in relatively alpine zones which occupy 3 hectares of land area.
The project "Economic Modeling and Feasibility" is to be finished in May `2015.
