It is necessary that the relevant state bodies and public figures activate their efforts for eliminating any forms of human rights violations and prevent their further reoccurrence, Armenia's Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan says in his statement. He analyzed the results of the events happened in the country after the seizure of the building of the Police Patrol Service Regiment in Erebuni district.
He pointed at the fact that the events happened on July 17 were accompanied with serious violations of fundamental human rights, one policeman was killed, several were wounded, these events caused an unprecedented outburst of violence propaganda and hatred, there were both peaceful demonstrations and protests accompanied with violence, the police breached citizens' right to peaceful protests and their personal freedoms. The tense situation formed as a result of breaches conducted by the police in its turn led to increase of violence during the protests and new violations by the law enforcers.
At the same time Armenia's Ombudsman is convinced that the members of the group who are on the territory of the Police building have conduced actions (burning cars, online calls for violence, demonstration of weapons, sporadic firing), which led to escalation of the tensions and created direct threat to the inhabitants of the adjacent territories.
Tatoyan has also stated that the members of the group and representatives of the police were wounded in a firefighting in the night of July 27. After this medical workers of Ambulance Service were taken as hostages and this is unacceptable according to the Ombudsman.
The Armenian Ombudsman has noted that on the same day an information was received that several members of the group are kept on the territory of the seized building beyond their will and have no possibility to leave the territory and their life is under threat. All this according to Tatoyan led to deeper display of intolerance by the society. "Such situation hinders preventing violation of human rights by the state authorized institutes. This situation has posed threat to the whole system of guarantying human rights in Armenia having negative impact on the principle of supremacy of law. In this light it is necessary to restore the climate of tolerance in the society and finally to find a peaceful resolution to the problem", the statement of the Armenian Ombudsman reads.
