Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
The Constitutional Court of Armenia started hearing the claims by ex- candidates for president Raffi Hovannisian and Andrias Ghoukassyan against the Central Election Committee to nullify the official results of the February 18 election published on February 25.
The two claims are being heard together. Parliamentarian Zaruhi Postanjyan and lawyer of Heritage Party faction Karen Mejlumyan represent Raffi Hovannisian. Andrias Ghoukassyan personally defends his interests in the court. Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan and Head of the Parliamentary Committee for State and Legal Affairs David Haroutiunyan represent President Serzh Sargsyan. The respondents are Chairman of the CEC Tigran Mukuchyan and Head of the CEC Legal
Department Nune Hovannisyan. Leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian and political expert, Head of Radio Hay Andrias Ghouakssyan, who received 0.57% of votes in the presidential election, applied to the Constitutional Court of March 4.
According to the official results, the winner is incumbent President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with 58.64% of the votes or 861,373 votes, the runner-up the leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian - 36.75% or 539,693.
Hovannisian refuses to accept these figures and is holding protest actions.
