National Security Service of Armenia made a statement saying shots were made from the area of the Police Patrol Service Regime seized by "Daredevils of Sasoun" at the police cordon, the houses in the area, and at the police officers on duty on the adjacent Khorenatsi Street in the period from 9;00pm to 11:00pm on July 29.
In addition, the NSS reports that sound and flash grenades were thrown at the area of the trucks blocking the entry to the territory of the seized Regiment, and a grenade was exploded inside the territory of the seized building. "There was an attempt to set to fire the bus parked in the area," the statement reads.
"Adequate retaliation by the law-enforcers stopped the actions of the group and prevented the attempts of an attack. By preliminary data, police officers and the group members were wounded in skirmishes," Police said in the statement.
"After the events of July 29 night, all the reasonable efforts to achieve peaceful resolution of the situation with the terrorists have run out. Use of force that is stipulated for by the Armenian laws in such situations is a necessity to prevent attacks on citizens, police, and the attempts to seize their weapons, as well as to release the hostages kept at the seized state facilities and suppress the members of the armed group."
In this light, the NSS set a deadline (5:00pm of July 30) for the group to surrender and put down weapons. "Otherwise the special forces of the law-enforcement agencies are authorized to shoot at sight and render the armed persons harmless."
The NSS warns that anyone attempting to penetrate into the territory of the seized regiment will be detained for supporting the armed group. "Any attempts to break into the police cordon will be prevented by the measures stipulated by the law," the statement reads.
