The criminal cases on the fact of assassination attempt against candidate for president Paruyr Hayrikyan is in the jurisdiction of Investigation Department of the National Security Service of Armenia, the Armenian Police reported.
An operative investigation group has been set up comprising the Police and the National Security Service officers. The National Security Service is conducting preliminary investigation.
A 7.62mm shell has been found in the yard of the building No.9 in Tpagrichneri Street in Yerevan where an assassination attempt was made against candidate for president Paruyr Hayrikyan overnight. All the necessary operative measures are taken to expose the crime and identify the criminal. A criminal case was initiated on Article 34-305 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (assassination attempt against a statesman, political figure or public worker in order to stop his activity).
The Operative Department of the Yerevan Police was alarmed of the incident at 11:30pm on Jan 31. An unknown fired at the candidate approximately at 11:20pm in the yard of the building No.9 on Tpagrichneri Street and wounded him in the right collarbone. Hayrikyan was taken to Surb Grigor Lusavorich Medial Center.
