"Armenia has held the Armenian Genocide Centennial events at the proper level. The world has shared the Armenian people's grief. Numerous foreign officials, international structures and parliaments have made statements on that matter," Levon Zurabyan, Head of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) faction, said in Parliament on Tuesday.
"But since April 25 our country has been back on the track, facing corruption, injustice, poverty, large-scale migration. A question arises - have we marked the Armenian Genocide Centennial in the correct way? No, we have not. To commemorate that mourning date correctly, we should have a strong statehood based on democratic standards, human rights principles and developed economy," said Zurabyan.
For his part, Stepan Demirchyan, another member of the ANC faction, also said that the commemoration events have been held at the proper level and the world has shown that it is fighting for justice together with Armenian people. "However, to achieve the Armenian nation's goals, we should form a strong statehood and it is impossible to do it under the regime, which has usurped the power and concentrated all the financial resources in its own hands. Today the country suffers from total corruption, social injustice, economic crisis and the constitutional reforms are unable to resolve these problems. Without solving these problems, Armenia will turn into a medieval feudal country no matter what government it has - presidential and semi-presidential," said Demirchyan.
