Azerbaijan tried to use all mechanisms to get concessions in the Karabakh peace process, Tevan Poghosyan, Armenian MP from the opposition Heritage Party faction, said at a press conference in Yerevan on September 2, when asked by ArmInfo to comment on Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's visit to Azerbaijan and his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
He noted that Armenia, in turn, should do its best to promote its stand and interests on this matter. He added that as long as Armenia's armed forces have favorable positions in the Karabakh conflict zone, Yerevan will manage to promote its interests.
In the meantime, Poghosyan is convinced that the problem settlement prospects depend on how consistent the countries' steps are. "If Karabakh's economy grows, if Karabakh attracts investments, develops tourism, agriculture and infrastructure, the settlement of the Karabakh problem will be in the offing," he said.
"I think the ceasefire may be breached even more frequently than in 1991-1994. Therefore, our armed forces should be vigilant and should suppress the adversary's attempts to destabilize the situation in the conflict zone," Poghosyan said. He noted that the conflict will be settled when the international community realizes the need for peace in the region.
To note, on September 1 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid a working visit to Azerbaijan. His meetings in Azerbaijan covered a number of issues, including the Karabakh peace process. Lavrov expressed hope for progress in the peace process
