The "Wake up, Armenia!" civic movement stresses the need to nationalize "Electric Networks of Armenia" (ENA) and demands the resignation of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC).
"On Aug 3, at 7 pm, the sit-in participants in Republic Square will present their demands on nationalization of the ENA and resignation of the PSRC," the movement says in its statement sent to ArmInfo. The movement explains its demands with the fact that the decision on the rise in electricity tariffs comes into effect on August 1, however, the Government took no decisions on the matter.
To recall, the decision on the rise in electricity prices in Armenia came into effect on 1 August. Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan says that the 6.93 AMD growth in tariffs will be subsidized from the funds received from the sale of Vorotan Hydro Cascade. The civic movement has been holding the sit-in in Republic Square for almost a week.
