Leyla Yunus: The artificial criminal case against Mirkadirov is directed at final suppression of the critical voices in Azerbaijan

The artificial criminal case against Rauf Mirkadirov is directed at final suppression of the people's diplomacy and critical voices in Azerbaijan, Director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy, Leyla Yunus, said during the on:line interview when replying at Arminfo correspondent's question.

Mirkadirov has been under arrest since 19 April on a charge of espionage in favor of Armenia.

"At least the fact that no serious investigation events were held regarding Rauf for more than a month since his arrest, is evidence of contrivedness of the "case".

As for our Institute, it has been put under pressure, as we have been dealing with independent people's diplomacy and an active human rights work.  By the way, it is not for the first time that the Institute was suppressed by the authorities. In 2009 we investigated the implication of the Police in trafficking, which ended by filing a lawsuit against the head of Interior Affairs Ministry, Ramil Usubov. And the report on the mass violation of the rights for property of Azerbaijani citizens, ended by demolition of our office in 2011", - she said.

She also added that her husband Arif had a  hypertensic crisis, but he cannot continue treatment, as Unibank groundlessly and illegally does not let him take the money from his private account.
