"Russia is our strategic partner, but we openly say that we object to the sale of Russian military hardware to Azerbaijan," Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan says in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
The President recalls that he has never stated that Russia patronizes Armenia. "I have never said that Russia is our patron and that any country in general has been or can be our patron," Sargsyan says, noting that Russia has never played such a role for Armenia as Turkey did for Azerbaijan.
Sargsyan points out that Yerevan is discontent with the sale of Russian weapons to Azerbaijan. "We have a strategic agreement with Russia. At the same time, we always say openly that we are against Russia- Azerbaijan arms deals".
To note, Serzh Sargsyan's interview with DW covered mainly the escalation in the Karabakh conflict zone. Serzh Sargsyan expressed his view of the conflict settlement prospects and spoke of Russia's role in achievement of truce after three-day armed hostilities. He also expressed hope that Germany will shortly recognize the mass killings of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey in the early XX century as genocide.
