The Armenian mass media experience an incurable tendency of Russophobia, which is displayed through controversial and illogical remarks about "colonization" of Armenia by Russia, Secretary of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Faction, Hovhannes Sahakyan, has told ArmInfo's correspondent when commenting on the rumors that after Armenia agreed to join the Customs Union, Russia laid down a number of requirements, including the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
"It should be noted that the country, which is "being colonized", cannot have annually growing investments. Neither can it register any progress in the talks on Nagorno-Karabakh or in the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey", Sahakyan says. He points out that if Armenia were a colonial country, the media outlets would not be able to express their stand so bravely.
Sahakyan thinks that in case of vertical relations between Armenia and Russia, Moscow would not raise the issue of Kessab's Armenians at various significant international organizations.
As regards the accusations against official Yerevan in relation to voting on the Crimean referendum issue at the UN General Assembly, Sahakyan said that given the unresolved Karabakh problem, Armenia could not help voting against the resolution that denied the principle of peoples' right to self-determination. "By the way, in this connection we should remember Ukraine's stand on voting on the anti-Armenian resolution submitted to the UN General Assembly by Azerbaijan 6 years ago", he says. He points out that Armenia's voting on Ukraine's issue at the UN General Assembly fully stemmed from the national interests of the republic.
