Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
If the presidential elections in Armenia were held on coming Sunday, 28% of the respondents would vote for the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, 19% - for Leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, large entrepreneur Gagik Tsarukyan, 11% for the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan. There are the results of the public opinion poll conducted by the Yerevan Office of Gallup International Association, presented by Aram Navasardyan, the head of the Yerevan Office, at today's press conference.
According to the poll results, Leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian would obtain 4%, the first President of Armenia, Leader of the Armenian National Congress Levon Ter-Petrosyan - 3%, and ex- foreign minister of Armenia Vartan Oskanian -3%. 32% of the
respondents consider Serzh Sargsyan to be the most popular politician, 29% - Gagik Tsarukyan, 9% - Kocharyan, 4% - Hovannisian, 3% - Levon Ter- Petrosyan, and 3% - Vartan Oskanian. 46% of the respondents are pleased with the President's work, and 43% are
displeased, the Government's activity is approved by 35% and is not approved by 52%, 33% are content with the Parliament's work and 55% are discontent, the rest of the respondents gave no reply. In case of external threat, 33% of the respondents are reliant on Serzh Sargsyan, 19% - on Tsarukyan, 11% - on Kocharyan, 4% - on Levon Ter-Petrosyan, 3% - on Oskanian and 3% - on Hovannisian. The rest 12% are reliant on nobody.
To note, the public opinion poll was conducted on October 9-20 throughout Armenia on a random basis. A total of 1,067 citizens took
part in the poll. To recall, the presidential elections in Armenia will be held on Feb 18 2013.
