Government of Armenia intends to facilitate the procedures for buying a weapon

 Armenian Police has drafted and submitted new amendments to the Law On Weapons to the Government of Armenia. The amendments certainly simplify the procedures for buying weapons by citizens.

In line with the effective Law On Weapons, the citizens are allowed to buy a rifled barrel shotgun after a 5- year testing period. The bill provides for applying the given law to all the persons above 21 who have a right to bear arms.

In response to ArmInfo's question about the reason of such initiative, the Police press-service said that the bill has not been studied yet and it is untimely to speak of the its reasons and factors.  The Police representative explained that they do not make any comments, for many circumstances may emerge during discussion of the bill.

To recall, the current legislation stipulates that the president, prime minister, head of the Police, defense minister and head of the National Security Service of Armenia have a right to award weapons. The last three officials are to award weapons for particular services stipulated by the law. The new bill stipulates that the above persons have a right to award weapons. The bill removes the provision related to the particular services subject to awarding with weapons.
