Armenia is going to initial the Association Agreement with the European Union in Vilnius, Head of the Armenian President's Staff Vigen Sargsyan told Azatutyun.am on Wednesday.
He said that despite the opinion that the Customs Union and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area are incompatible, Armenia has always believed that it must try to combine them.
"But if we fail, we will exercise of the most important right offered by the Association Agreement – the right of a political dialogue with the EU based on common values," Sargsyan said.
He said that nobody pressured Armenia into joining the Customs Union. "Nobody threatened us. On the contrary, we were initially interested in this project. There was a big obstacle to it – the absence of common borders. So, we formed working groups in order to solve this problem. And now they have found a way to make the project useful for us," Sargsyan said.
