Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
Vahe Avetyan, military doctor severely beaten by security guards of an oligarch, has died.
Avetyan and his two colleagues were beaten in Harsnakar restaurant, owned by oligarch MP Ruben Hayrapetyan, on June 17.
Avetyan was taken to hospital with a head injury. He was operated on later, but doctors were pessimistic.
A source from the PR Department of Armenia's Defense Ministry reports that Avetyan died in the central clinical hospital.
The incident has received wide public response. Six people have already been detained on suspicion of being privy to the case.
Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan has said that all those guilty will be punished.
This is not the first such incident in Harsnakar. In Aug 2011 there was a skirmish, with one person wounded. The police accused Hayrapetyan's security guard Ashot Snjoyan, but later closed the case.
