Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova says one should not look for any nuances in the supply of Russian military hardware to Azerbaijan, because Russia has military and technical cooperation with other countries on international and legal basis, RIA Novosti reports.
At the same time, she points out that Russia perfectly realizes the complexity of the situation in Karabakh. "We understand what methods can really calm down the situation. First of all, these methods include political and diplomatic methods," she says.
To note, earlier Rosoboronexport reported that in 2017 Russia will complete the delivery of a large lot of military hardware under the contracts signed in 2010. According to the media reports, the matter concerns three battalions of T-90S tanks and three battalions of infantry fighting vehicles (nearly 100 vehicles), as well as self-propelled artillery, multiple rocket launchers and heavy flamethrower systems. In addition, Azerbaijan is purchasing maintenance recovery vehicles, engineer vehicles, and other military hardware. Experts said that the value of the contracts is estimated at 1 bln USD. According to open sources, Russia and Azerbaijan signed a contract on delivery of 24 Mi-35M helicopters to
Azerbaijan.
To recall, during his recent visit to Berlin, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan expressed his discontent with the supply of Russian weapons to Azerbaijan. He stressed that Yerevan has few opportunities to influence that process. "Russia is our strategic partner and we have a strategic agreement with Russia. At the same time, we always say publicly that we object to the sale of Russian military hardware to Azerbaijan," said Sargsyan.
