On October 22, Director General of CJSC South Caucasus Railway (SCR) Viktor Rebets summed up the results of the autumn inspection.
"Over the 5-year activities of the SCR in Armenia, investments totaled almost 100 bln AMD, of which 65 bln AMD was spent on modernization of the infrastructure. About 300 km of track facilities were repaired and 412.5 thsd railway sleepers were laid. In 2013, 15 km of track facilities will be overhauled, 19 km will undergo medium-level repairs, and 31 km will undergo track raising", he said.
In the meantime, Rebets pointed out that along with the results achieved, the autumn inspection revealed a number of shortcomings. He stressed that the reason of the shortcomings was the inefficient activity of the managers and insufficient workflow management rather than the lack of materials or employees.
"At the same time, I cannot help stressing the positive results as well. The technical condition of the Gyumri and Masis stations has considerably improved and positive results have been fixed in motorization and energy supply of the enterprise", Rebets said.
He emphasized that during the tense autumn and winter period the SCR employees should personally inspect the track on a daily basis and take all measures to properly implement the program of infrastructure recovery and to remove the shortcomings. "We need to do a big job", he said.
To recall, the annual autumn inspection at the South Caucasus Railway aims to ensure uninterrupted operation of the railway in autumn and winter. High priority is given to preparation of snow disposal facilities, repair operations and personnel re-training.
South Caucasus Railway CJSC is a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railway OJSC and the concessional manager of Armenian Railway under the Concession Agreement signed on 13 Feb 2008. The Agreement was signed for 30 years but it may be prolonged for 10 more years. -
