Foreign Ministry of Georgia summons Armenia's ambassador over the latest meeting of the Armenian and South Ossetian parliament speakers.
Referring to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, Georgia-Online reports that Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Gigi Gigiadze is outraged at the meeting of the Armenian parliament speaker with "the representative of the Russian occupational regime in the Tskhinval region, with the so-called speaker of the parliament." According to the source, the Foreign Ministry says the meeting runs contrary to the traditional friendly relationships of Armenia and Georgia and seriously affects their bilateral relations.
"The deputy minister of foreign affairs of Georgia expressed surprise at the reports on alleged informal nature of the meeting. According to Gigi Gigiadze, any meeting of statesmen with representatives of the occupational regime is inadmissible to Georgia. Armenia's Ambassador expressed regret for the incident saying official Yerevan will be immediately informed of Tbilisi's stand," the Foreign Ministry of Georgia said in a statement.
Earlier, on Monday, Speaker of the National Assembly Galust Sahakyan met withhis South Ossetian counterpart Anatoliy Bibilov. Arsen Babayan, Head of Armenian Parliament Public Relations and Media Department confirmed the meeting of Sahakyan and Bibilov saying: "It was a private meeting, the sides neither discussed nor reached any arrangements during it."
