The Alican checkpoint on the Turkish-Armenian border will not be opened until the Armenian troops are withdrawn from Azeri territories, the head of the Igdir unit of the Turkey-Azerbaijan group Serdar Unsal said concerning the Armenian lobby's call on the US government to open Alican for Armenians from Syria.
1news.az quotes Unsal as saying that nobody has the right to demand that the border be opened even considering the events in Syria. He said that it will be hard to close the border once it is opened and this will cause Azerbaijan's displeasure.
Unsal repeated the words of the Turkish President and Prime Minister that the Armenian-Turkish border will remain closed for as long as "the Azeri territories are occupied."
The US president administration's website has started a petition to open the Armenian-Turkish border so as to make it easier for Syrian Armenians to go from Syria to Armenia.
