Armenia will benefit from the Russian-Turkish normalization, because the collision of these countries' interests has a direct influence on the national security of Armenia and Artsakh, Head of the Armenian National Congress Faction Levon Zurabyan has told ArmInfo.
"Possible normalization would be a very positive development, because each escalation between these countries affects the security of our country," he says, noting that the recent escalation in Artsakh happened amid the Russian-Turkish conflict.
Heritage Party Faction member Tevan Poghosyan thinks that Armenia's security should not be determined by the third countries' relations. "We should create a system of security, economic development and foreign mutually beneficial relations with the third countries, which should not be affected by improvement or deterioration of the relations between Ankara and Moscow or other powers," he said, adding that the Russia-Turkey rapprochement may have a negative effect on both Armenian-Russian relations and the Karabakh conflict settlement, given the improvement of the Azerbaijani-Russian relations.
To note, on June 27 Russian President's Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan begged Russia's pardon for having downed the Russian Su-24 plane over Syria. The downing of the plane resulted in deterioration of the Moscow-Ankara relations. After the Turkish leader's apologies, the situation may change given that this week Erdogan and Putin are expected to have a telephone talk.
