A School Meals Program will be implemented in the country starting 2014. The program will involve the elementary school students, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan told media, Friday.
The School Meals Program 2014-2016 pursues safe and high-quality school meals for elementary school students. Basic daily cost of meals per pupil will total 140 drams - 200ml milk (matsoni, juice, hot chocolate) and a 50g roll. The program will be implemented on the state and donor funds in Vayots Dzor, Ararat and Syunik region. The remaining regions and Yerevan will be involved in the program till 2021. The program will involve 1500 children throughout Armenia. The local communities and parents may make their contributions to vary the menu of the school meals. The program was developed with help of experts from Russia and Israel.
