During the May 21 meeting National Assembly of RA ratified a set of agreements regarding the "Kotayk Sold Waste Management Project". Following the programme European organizations will allocate about 8.07 mln EUR to Armenia for providing municipal organizations with support on garbage collection.
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration Vache Terteryan presented the set of agreements and said that EBRD will allocate 3.5 mln EUR. The agreement on this credit allocation was signed in December 2014. The loan will be allocated for the term of two years at the rate of Euribor +1%, which will make 0.5% at the "floating" rate.
The investment instrument of European Union's Neighbourhood policy will allocate 3.5 mln EUR and 1.07 mln EUR are expected to be received as technical assistance. 7 mln EUR are to be directed at the construction of a garbage landfill, 1.07 mln will be directed at the implementation of preparatory works before establishing a company that will be dealing with the implementation of the investment component of the project.
Eight communities - cities of Hrazdan (919 thsd EUR), Tsaghkadzor (29 thsd EUR), Charentsavan (440 thsd EUR), Abovyan (983 thsd EUR), Byureghavan (215 thsd EUR), Eghvard (261 thsd EUR), Nor-Hachn (280 thsd EUR) and Sevan (441 thsd EUR) are involved in this project and these very communities are to establish the aforementioned company on a parity basis. According to the deputy minister, the municipalities will be provided with new garbage trucks and containers, as well as new waste deposit grounds.
The Armenian government will back the project.
According to Terteryan, it is planned to form a system of management of domestic garbage in Armenia. in the coming 10-15 years the annual garbage volume in Armenia will total about 100 thsd tons against the current 80 thsd tons.
