Visiting meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Committee for Security and Defense has kicked off in Yerevan. Perspectives of enhancing cooperation in the field of defense and security in the CSTO area will be discussed at the meeting.
A little incident took place in the course of the meeting: Armenian parliamentarian, Leader of Free Democrats Party Khachatur Kokobelyan demanded simultaneous translation of speeches and translation of the Commission's documents from Russian into Armenian.
"In Armenia the state language is Armenian. Consequently, translation into Armenian must be provided at the meeting," Kokobelyan said.
In response to Kokobelyan's discontent, Republican parliamentarian Khosrov Haroutiunyan said that the working language of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is Russian and the meetings are always held in Russian in any country. Nevertheless, Haroutiunyan promised Kokobelyan to ensure simultaneous translation of his speech at the meeting.
