Visa Free Regime between Georgia and Iran Suspended Temporary - MFA

Tbilisi. In connection with the Non-Aligned Movement's summit, scheduled for in August in Iran, the visa free regime for Georgian citizens, who have ordinary passports, is suspended, the Consular Department of MFA of Georgia reports.
The restrictions came into force on August 5 and will be in force till August 31.
"Proceeding from expediency of security measures and in connection with the 16th Summit of Non- Aligned Movement's leaders, which is t be held in Iran, visa free regime is suspended temporary for Georgian citizens with ordinary passports for the period from August 5 till August 31", the statement reads.
According to the ministry's statement, during this period Georgian citizens willing to travel to Iran in August would have to apply for visas to the Iranian Embassy in Tbilisi.
The foreign political department of Georgia reports that citizens of Georgia will be able to travel to Iran without visas from September 1, 2012.
The visa free regime between Georgia and Iran has been acting since January 26, 2011. Georgian citizens can stay in Iran and Iranian citizens can stay in Georgia without visas during 45 days. If a person wants to be in the country over 45 days, a visa or a corresponding permission should be appealed for.
