Prosperous Armenia Party has weakened its positions by offering ex- foreign minister Vartan Oskanian to top the party's ticket for the Elders' Council of Yerevan, said Tigran Karapetyan, Head of the People Party.
"This makes obvious that it is the team of the former president or the members of his team. The people will not perceive him unambiguously. In villages they do not deeply analyze all this, while in Yerevan they understand everything," the politician said. The second position after the Republican Party will belong to Heritage Party, Karapetyan told media, Monday.
As for his participation in the elections to the Elders' Council, Karapetyan said he is leaving politics and his party will not run to the Elders' Council. The reason is the political process and his disappointment with the past election, Karapetyan said.
To recall, the elections to the Elders' Council of Yerevan are scheduled for May 5. The election campaign will be launched on April 7 and continue till May 3. Voters will elect 65 members of the Elders' Council, who, in turn, will elect the Yerevan mayor.
