Serzh Sargsyan: I am happy to see how quickly Paruyr Hayrikyan is recovering

I am happy to see that my partner Paruyr Hayrikyan is gradually recovering. This was a real challenge. I am confident we will overcome it, being strong and consolidated, President Serzh Sargsyan said during a campaign meeting with voters in Masis town, 4 February. 
 
"The attack on presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan was targeted not only at Hayrikyan but also at Armenia's statehood. The crime was aimed to hamper Armenia's progress but it is necessary to go ahead", he said. and added that "It had a goal to brake the natural course of electoral process.  But, we will not permit it. We must be guided by the Constitution. I assure you that our actions will be in compliance with the letter and spirit of the
Constitution".

He said that he is well aware of the problems gathered in Masis, a part of which will be resolved in several years. "My electoral programme is for every community and every person. We do not give unfounded promises. We shall provide new quality and create new schemes of social guarantees. But the most important is a problem of job places, which will be resolved thanks to reforms in economy and other spheres", the president said.

To recall, an assassination attempt was made on presidential candidate, opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, on January 31 at around 11:20pm in downtown Yerevan, in front of his house. Hayrikyan was shot and hospitalized with a gunshot wound. He underwent a successful surgery on the morning of February 1, and a bullet, which was located in the soft tissues of his right elbow shoulder, was removed. A criminal case is opened in connection with the assassination attempt against Paruyr Hayrikyan. The National Security Service is conducting the investigation.
