Swiss Ambassador to Armenia Lukas Gasser: Switzerland will try to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without questioning the established formats such as the OSCE Minsk process
by Ashot Safaryan
The settlement of the Indoor Market problem implies a consensus between the owner and the public, Tigran Urikhanyan, MP from the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Faction, PAP Spokesperson, told ArmInfo.
He stressed that the Indoor Market is of public interest; therefore, the public protest against its demolition is logical.
"In this context, I welcome the protest actions near the Indoor Market. The activists are holding their ground and it is their constitutional right to protest. On the other hand, it is also necessary to take into account the owner's stance; otherwise, we run the risk to violate the economic law standards. Consequently, a consensus is needed. Otherwise, the problem will not be solved", said Urikhanyan.
Urikhanyan added that he possesses no information on whether the PAP Faction in the Yerevan Elders' Council is going to suggest mechanisms and solutions to the Indoor Market problem. "I have not discussed this problem with the members of the Elders' Council", he said.
To note, the Human Rights-96 Party and the Political Council of the Armenian National Congress have recently blamed the PAP Faction in the Elders' Council for their passivity in the Indoor Market matter.
To recall, despite the vehement public protests, the construction in the area of the Indoor Market is still going on. According to media reports, the Indoor Market has turned from a historical monument into an ordinary supermarket and will open on September 15. The owner of the Indoor Market is oligarch- parliamentarian Samvel Alexanyan.
