"Brazil maintains excellent relations with Armenia as well as with Azerbaijan and is willing to consider all initiatives in strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense with both countries. As to the alleged partnership between GESPI and the Government of Azerbaijan, it should be observed that the company is a private business and that any contacts between the company and the Government of Azerbaijan were not mediated by the Brazilian Ministry of Defense", Edson Marinho Duarte Monteiro, Ambassador of Brazil to Armenia, has replied to ArmInfo's request to comment on Azerbaijani Defense Industry Minister Yaver Camalov's statement about Baku's intention to launch joint production of antitank missile systems with Brazil.
Earlier the Azerbaijani media outlets quoted Yaver Camalov as saying that Azerbaijan seeks to launch a joint production of antitank missile systems with Brazil. "Azerbaijan is negotiating with GESPI Aeronautics (Brazil) to launch a joint manufacture of antitank missile systems. The company's representatives will shortly visit Azerbaijan to hold the next round of negotiations. But the results will be known in April 2015. The defense minister of Brazil has invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to attend an international weapon exhibition, which will be held in April. The relevant documents will be signed on the margins of the exhibition," said Camalov.
