Electric power tariff may rise in Armenia after the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC applies to the energy watchdog for revision of the tariff in mid-May. A Yerevan-based Haykakan Zhamanak Daily writes the company will suggest increasing the tariff for the population from 42 drams to 48 drams per kWh for daytime and 38 drams per kWh for nighttime.
According to the paper, it is anticipated that the price of the Russian natural gas for Armenia will be reduced from $189 to $167 per 1000 cu m in May. However, the population will not benefit from the change, as the tariff will be reduced to prevent possible increase in tariff if the national currency devaluates.
