Rostelecom Company has deployed a Content Delivery Network (CDN) for Mail.ru Group resources in Armenia via its Armenian subsidiary GNC- ALFA.
GNC-ALFA Director General Hayk Faramazyan told media, Wednesday, the company's users will now enjoy much faster (7-fold) access to Mail.ru resources, namely, mail, odnoklassniki.ru and others.
"Mail.ru Group is among top five biggest Internet companies in the world and we are very happy to become the first operator to localize their content," Faramazyan said. Localization will allow providing high-speed and reliable Internet connection. Rostelecom operates systems to speed-up content delivery to Google and Rutube.
Deputy Technical Director of Mail.ru Group Pavel Zavyalov, in turn, said cooperation with GNC- ALFA is a result of good partnerships with Rostelecom Moscow as well as operativiness and willingness of the Armenian party.
"Armenia is so far the first country we have CDN in. The pilot project was launched in Irkutsk in summer," Zavyalov said. He said that Rostelecom deploys network that will allow providing 100Mbit/sec Internet connection.
By data of Liveinternet for August 2013, the average daily coverage of Mail.ru projects in Armenia is over 865,000 users. "Heavy" multimedia content (photo, video, games) is popular among users.
To recall, in late 2012 Rostelecom OJSC (Russia) launched promotion and retail sales of telecommunication services throughout Armenia via its Armenian subsidiary GNC-ALFA CJSC. GNC-ALFA CJSC provides fixed telephony and Internet services to individuals under the Rostelecom brand. It has launched television services quiet lately. GNC- ALFA operates modern fibre optical lines with total length of over 2,500 kilometres that cover 80% of Armenia. The company's network is interconnected with the region's major backbone networks, as well as sharing international gateways with Iran and Georgia. Fitch agency has assigned BBB- rating to Rostelecom OJSC. Standard&Poor's has assigned BB+ rating to the company. (The exchange rate of the Armenian Central Bank for 23 September was 406.71AMD/1USD).
