Leader of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian believes the meeting of Armen Martirosyan, vice chair of the Party Board, and Ruibik Hakobyan, head of Heritage Party parliamentary factions, with President Serzh Sargsyan does not run contrary to Party's policy.
Hovannisian said the decision on the meeting was adopted after a working discussion at the Party. "I was not in Armenia then. I was traveling to the United States, but I knew about that possible meeting. Although, I would not meet the president personally, I don't think Martirosyan and Hakobyan acted against the Party's stand. The meeting with Sargsyan was held within the inter-party consultations and there is nothing controversial in their actions," Hovannisisan told reporters, on March 25.
Earlier, Zaruhi Postanjyan, MP from the Heritage Party, slammed Martirosyan and Hakobyan for meeting with the president over his Constitution Reform Initiative. The Heritage Party leader does not share Postanjyan's criticism.
Asked about the final stand of the Heritage Party on the Constitutional Reform, Hovannisian said even the authorities - the initiators of the reform - do not realize what they want.
"We have submitted a package of our suggestions concerning the full transition to the proportional system of elections and publication of the list of the voters after voting. If they accept our suggestions, it will be fine. If not, we will not be participating in those debates. In addition, even Serzh Sargsyan has not realized yet what model of government is better for the country. Frankly speaking, the behavior of the authorities is at least strange," Hovannisian said.
