The downing of the Russian plane in the Syrian territory has once again drawn the international community's attention to the problem of Turkey's cooperation with international terrorism accomplices, Artak Zakaryan, Chairman of the Armenian Standing Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, has told ArmInfo.
On November 24, a Turkish F-16 fighting falcon shot down a Russian Su-24 plane near the Syrian-Turkish border. The two pilots were able to parachute out of the plane before it crashed. One of them was killed while landing, the other one was rescued by the Syrian special forces and is in the Russian base in Syria, by unconfirmed data. One more Russian serviceman was killed in the course of the rescue operation.
"The Russian-Turkish relations have never been ideal. They have always had numerous problems. Turkey has never been a country guided by allied and partner priorities in its foreign policy. Turkey has always pursued its own interests, displaying aggression and harming the interests of the partner states," Zakaryan says.
In this light, the lawmaker thinks that the Russian Su-24 was downed by the Turkish air force deliberately. The incident once again demonstrates that Turkey is not so decent in the fight against terrorism.
"Given that the terrorist organizations are unable to operate without support for a long time, Turkey and other countries supporting terrorism should bear responsibility for the cooperation and support provided to the terrorists," he says.
