The National Assembly of Armenia on Wednesday rejected the opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun MPs' bill on foregoing the majority election system in the country.
The bill did not pass by a vote of 53 for, 66 against, and three abstentions. Solely the ruling Republican Party NA Faction members voted against the bill.
To note, on 20 May ARFD came forward with the initiative to pass to the 100% proportional election system during the parliamentary election. The head of the ARFD faction, Armen Rustamyan, said that the majority election system in Armenia has turned into a mechanism whereby those who are faithful to the authorities enter the parliament by making use of administrative and financial resources.
