Governor of the Ararat region of Armenia, Edik Barseghyan, has tendered his resignation.
According to Arminfo sources in administration of Artashat, during the morning meeting with his deputies and heads of the departments, Edik Barseghyan said the decision is explained by his age and said he needs a couple of years to rest. He also added that two weeks ago he personally asked president of Armenia to dismiss him.
The governors in the Republic of Armenia are appointed and dismissed according to the decision of the Government. The resignation will be approved by the government during the session on 10 October. Aramayis Grigoryan, former agriculture minister of Armenia, a member of the ARFD, is likely to replace Barseghyan.
The 66 year old member of the ruling RPA, Edik Barseghyan, was born in 1947. From 2000 to 2004 he held the position of the governor of Syunik, and since 2010 he has been the governor of the Ararat region of Armenia.
