Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
Candidate for president of Armenia Andreas Ghoukassyan has no intention to stop his hunger strike before February 19. The candidate made such statement talking to media on Feb 11.
He said that his health state will lie heavy on the conscience of the Republican Party of Armenia, president Serzh Sarysyan and the OSCE/ODIHR Mission in Armenia.
"When I left home to have a shower Vice Chairman of RPA Armen Ashotyan called it a reality show. Now, I state with full conscience that I will refuse from assistance of the Health Ministry unless RPA apologizes and admits that it is a serious process," he said.
The candidate said that ha has already given blood test and the result will be known on February 12. Now the Emergency doctors and his supporters systematically test his blood pressure. The candidate on hunger strike said that his state is not considered an invincible obstacle to the presidential election and the public and press allegations are not justified. As regards the assassination attempt against candidate for president Paruyr Hayrikyan and his games with
the claim to the Constitutional Court, Ghoukassyan said that nothing depends on Hayrikyan as decisions are made from "above". "Constitutional Court has never decided anything in our country. In this case, as well, neither the candidate nor the court has any power," he said.
To recall, Andreas Ghoukassyan announced hunger strike on Jan 21. He demanded CEC to recognize invalid the incumbent president's registration as candidate for president, but the CEC rejected his application for it is not within its competence to make politician decisions. Ghoukassyan said that he would stop hunger strike if the international observers refuse to monitor the election. After the attempt on candidate Paruyr Hayrkyan's life, Ghouakssyan said he will
stop hunger strike if Hayrikyan applies to the Constitutional Court for postponement of the election, but Hayrikyan ignored his demand.
