New rates for energy generated by renewable power generation enterprises will come into force in Armenia starting July 1, 2015.
During the May 29 meeting Public Services Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Armenia has taken the decision to levy 23.631 AMD/1kWh (exc. VAT) tariff for natural flow power generation facilities. The tariff for irrigation water power stations will be 15.751 AMD/1kWh (exc. VAT) and 10.502 AMD/1kWh (exc. VAT) for small hydro-electric power stations that operate on drinking water. The tariff for wind turbine generators will total 42, 42 AMD/1kWh (exc. VAT) and 42,426 AMD/1kWh (exc. VAT) for stations that operate on biofuel. The decision will be in force till July 1, 2016.
To note, renewable resources, particularly, water resources provide more than 30% of energy generated in Armenia. The country has 162 small hydro-electric power stations and two large-scale complexes - Sevan-Hrazdan and Vorotan. 60 small hydro-electric power stations are being constructed. Upon their operation Armenian will be generating about 1 bln kWh energy.
Solar energy development plan has been elaborated. According to the calculations, Armenia has more than 6-7 thsd MW of solar energy potential. A power plant of 30-50 MW is to be constructed in the first place. This experience will be later used in the construction of new generation plants.
Armenia has investment plans with Iranian, Polish and Chinese companies on building wind turbines. The Republic of Armenia will soon have 200 MW wind turbines. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has elaborated a wind map which is of great use for investors.
