Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan shares the opinion that it is necessary to spend the public funds in a saving manner.
When commenting on the opinion that the April war demonstrated the need to reduce the spending, Serzh Sargsyan said in an interview with Armenian TV channels: "We have always spoken about it and the saving of public funds does not depend on the April events. Earlier we also sought to avoid irrelevant expenditures". The President added that representatives of all power branches should realize this and should give high priority to daily reforms.
Sargsyan noted that one should not link the reforms to the four-day war. He said that on Feb 12 he made a statement, pointing at all the negative phenomena and stressing the need to remove them. "It was necessary to launch changes regardless of the hostilities. I understand that some people are discontent with the slow pace of the reforms, but we should realize that radical changes cannot give good results. Are the economic reforms and military actions compatible?" Sargsyan said.
On May 12, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said that the time has come for radical changes. In this context, he stressed the need to reduce the expenditures of the state machinery and to save public funds. In addition, he announced his intention to launch effective fight against corruption, monopolies and other negative phenomena.
