Iranian military serviceman: After Syria a civil war will break out in Turkey

  • Tuesday, August 7, 16:51

The bloody civil war in Syria will be followed by a similar war in Turkey, Head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, General Hassan Firuzabadi, told journalists, the Iranian mass media report.

According to him, the destabilization of the situation in the Middle East countries is the work of the United States. The general warned that now it is the turn of Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

When asked how urgent the destabilization in Turkey is whether the statement of the Iranian military serviceman is grounded, turcologist Rouben Melkonyan pointed out that the domestic political situation in Turkey is really far from being ideal. "It should be noted that from the viewpoint of human rights and freedoms and democracy Turkey is very vulnerable. Over the decades Ankara has been conducting a policy of assimilationism. In response, since the late 1980s the Kurdish liberation movement has activated in Turkey and has disturbed official Ankara so far. It is this circumstance that could cause the tough statements of the Iranian general", Melkonyan said.

He also referred to the statement of Ahmed Turk, a Kurd deputy of the Turkish Parliament, who has recently said that the Kurds of four countries should shortly unite and create their own state. "Their ambitions are quite serious and it would be extremely naive not to reckon with them", Melkonyan said.

He said that the Kurdish problem is the main destabilizing factor in Turkey. He also stressed that the Kurdish movement in Turkey is supported by Bashar Assad's regime, hence Ankara's attempts to overthrow the Syrian president with the help of the rebels. "I do not rule out that Americans may conduct a double game and support the Kurds on the quiet, using this factor as a sword of Damocles over Ankara's head. Tehran is also taking such steps given the presence of a great number of Kurds in Iran. But the Kurds receive the main support from Assad", he said.
