Democratic party: Armenia should join any union together with the NKR

Armenia should join any union together with the Nagornyy Karabakh, the leader of the Democratic Party of Armenia, Aram Sargsyan, said at today's press-conference.

"Armenia should join any union together with the NKR, but we need a delicate diplomatic work for that. In that case, we shall not have surprising statements similar to the one made by President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, as they are a result of the uncertain foreign policy of Armenia regarding Nagornyy Karabakh", - he said. He also added that an adequate answer to Nazarbayev would be a statement that Yerevan may recognize Stepanakert, just the same way as it recognized the Crimea.

It would be logical to ask president of Kazakhstan, how humane will be to isolate the region with population 150 thsd, taking into account the fact that Armenia is the only bridge linking Nagornyy Karabakh with an external world.

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, said on 29 May in Astana Azerbaijan claims that Armenia can join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) within the same borders it joined the World Trade Organization (WTO).  "We have received the Azerbaijani president's letter saying that Armenia joined WTO with a reservation that the provisions must apply to the territory of Armenia within its international borders recognized by the UN. It is an issue for discussion," the Kazakh president said.

On 31 May, President of Armenia said in a statement that Nagorno Karabakh conflict will not be settled within the framework of the CU. "Who said that we will go the CU together with Nagorno Karabakh? It is impossible, as Nagorno Karabakh is not part of Armenia, at least, in conformity with our legislation and our views. However, Armenia's accession to the CU will sure help resolve the Karabakh conflict. Although we are not pleased with Nazarbayev's statement, it cannot do us any harm," the president said.
