To count the time left to the date of opening of the Dilijan International School of Armenia, a countdown clock will be launched in Dilijan on September 5, Veronika Zonabend, the wife of the well-known Russian businessman and philanthropist Rouben Vardanyan, said at today's press conference in Yerevan. To note, Rouben Vardanyan is the initiator of the charitable project on construction of the Dilijan International School.
Zonabend said that the School will host its first pupils in September 2014. A total of 90 pupils from all over the world will study at the School during the first academic year. In 2023 the number of the pupils will grow to 650 form at least 60 countries. The school leavers will be given an IB diploma. The Cambridge IGCSE program will be launched at the Dilijan School in 2017.
She added that the annual training costs will be 30 thsd USD per pupil. In the meantime, the education of most of the pupils will be sponsored by the Charity Foundation, which is currently being set up. The Foundation is expected to raise nearly 250 mln USD for these purposes. In October 2013 the Dilijan International School will become a full member of the United World Colleges (UWC).
To recall, the project on construction of the Dilijan International School is estimated at 132 mln USD. It is a large-scale charity project of Rouben Vardanyan and Veronika Zonabend. Among the other founders of the School are businessmen Danil Khachaturov, Nubar Afeyan, Vladimir Avetisyan, Gagik Adibekyan and Ziyavudin Magomedov.
