Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
The Constitutional Court of Armenia has refused to call Serzh Sargsyan as a witness over the claims by the oppositional candidates for president Raffi Hovannisian and Andreas Ghoukassyan.
Representative of Raffi Hovannisian, Karen Mejlumyan, and ex-candidate for president Andreas Ghoukassyan submitted relevant petitions to the Constitutional Court. In addition, Ghoukaasyan expressed discontent at the fact that Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan and Head of the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Affairs David Haroutiunyan represent Serzh Sargsyan at the court. He said that statesmen cannot participate in the court hearings. However, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Haroutiunyan said that Hrayr Tovmasyan is present at the court as a lawyer and not as a minister.
To recall, the Constitutional Court is currently hearing the claims of the above two oppositional candidates for president against the CEC to nullify the official result of the election. The opposition supporters are currently picketing the Court building urging the members of the Constitutional Court not to be "sold for 3- pieces of silver."
