The New Times Party has decided to urge people to boycott the referendum on constitutional reforms, Leader of the New Times Party Aram Karapetyan has told ArmInfo, noting the authorities have already "drawn their pros" for the constitutional amendments.
Aram Karapetyan does not doubt that the referendum results will be rigged. Nevertheless, he urges the citizens to boycott the voting. He thinks the number one task of the ruling regime is to ensure the necessary turnout, because one thing is to rig the results, simultaneously demonstrating a big turnout to the international community and quite another thing is "to draw not only the figures but also the turnout amid the total boycott of the referendum".
In Karapetyan's word, it has repeatedly been stated that the package of constitutional amendments will harm the ruling elite and the president in person. "But if Serzh Sargsyan has decided to adopt the new constitution, let him do that. When you are on the top, you don't think that you face the prospect of finding yourself at the bottom," Karapetyan says, recalling the story of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
To note, the constitutional referendum is scheduled for December 6.
