A Zimbabwe-registered company Armenian Fruit has received 292,000 US dollars from Armenia's state budget for alleged consultations on apricot growing.
The statement came from Ishkhan Zakaryan, Head of the Control Chamber of Armenia, at the meeting of the Parliament Committee for Financial and Budget Affairs, on 2 September. This was not the most sophisticated method of budget fraud, however. It has turned out that another company received 150 million drams (nearly $380,000) from the state budget to import Edelbayev sheep in the country. Instead, the company purchased local sheep and lamps.
