Tigran Sargsyan has resigned from the post of Prime Minister, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told journalists on Thursday.
He said that Sargsyan did it during the Thursday meeting of the Supreme Body of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has accepted the resignation.
Shortly the President will convene political consultations with a view to elect a new PM.
According to Sharmazanov, it was not a spontaneous decision - Sargsyan's resignation was accepted after long discussions.
Sharmazanov said that no candidatures have been discussed yet but the new PM will be elected shortly.
ArmInfo's own correspondent reports that Tigran Sargsyan left the RPA's central office right after the meeting. He did not respond to the question if his resignation had anything to do with the Constitutional Court's verdict on the pension reform.
