Swiss Ambassador to Armenia Lukas Gasser: Switzerland will try to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without questioning the established formats such as the OSCE Minsk process
by Ashot Safaryan
The statement about Armenia's intention to participate in the summit of the "Eastern Partnership" countries in Vilnius is the key message of President Serzh Sargsyan's speech at PACE, political expert, Hrant Melik-Shakhnazaryan said at today's press-conference.
He said that Sargsyan hinted at Armenia's participation in the Vilnius summit. "It means that the president has serious expectations and that he is going to sign any document with the EU", - the expert said. He also added that in his speech the president strictly said that Armenian foreign policy is stemming from the interests of the country and people, and will never depend on decision of any structure. "From now on, Armenia may affect solutions of the Customs Union member-states and reach favorable position, as the president said", - the expert emphasized.
He also added that by Armenia's joining the Customs Union does not mean that the European markets will not be closed for it. He thinks that Armenian mining production will be exported to Europe as earlier. "Moreover, political cooperation will deepen more and perhaps a contract will be signed on cooperation in certain spheres: education, culture, healthcare, human rights, etc", - the expert concluded.
