Head of the Gallup International Association
in Armenia Aram Navasardyan introduced the results of the latest poll
"Yerevan residents about Yerevan," Wednesday, on 24 December.
According to the survey, 63% of the polled residents
welcomed the changes in the capital city, while 18% of them negatively assessed
the changes for the outgoing year and another 18% could give no
assessment. Navasardyan said that
removal of domestic waste and refuse are still considered as the major problem
of Yerevan (23% of the polled residents say). Another problem is the payment
for communal services (14%). 42% of the
respondents say they would like to see more green areas in their city, 18% of
the respondents want to see more playgrounds, while 17% came out for more frequent organization of
litter pick.
The respondents gave 3.9 points (out of 5) to city
lighting, 3.6 points to the cultural life of Yerevan, 3.3 points to the
beautification activities, 3.5 points to security measures, 3.3 points to the
city cleaning activities, and 3.6 points to the public transport.
The survey contained a special point regarding the
public transport. The respondents were
asked to assess the transport means basing on a 5-point system. Thus, the
operation of buses and route minivans was assessed by load (2.9 points to buses
and 2.3 points to minivans), technical state (3.2 points and 2.3 points,
respectively), arrival time (3 points
and 2.6 points, respectively), and stops at stations (3.2 points and 2.6
points, respectively).
Navasardyan said that the polled residents assessed
also the efforts of Mayor Taron Margaryan for the city, giving him 4.1 points
out of 5. According to the poll, 82% of the Yerevan residents like the
appearance of the city.
The poll was conducted among 1066 residents of Yerevan
in various administrative districts in the period from 9 up to 16 December.
