The observation mission of the CIS Executive Committee will be extremely unbiased when monitoring the presidential election in Armenia, Head of the mission, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Vladimir Garkun told journalists in Yerevan on Thursday. He said that the mission starts
performing its functions on Jan 24. Earlier on Thursday the CIS observation mission met with Head of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia (CEC) Tigran Mukuchyan.
Garkun said that during the meeting Mukuchyan thoroughly presented the CEC's work. The observers are also going to meet with the candidates and will attentively follow the election campaign and regularly inform the public of their observations and impressions. "The CIS mission has a great experience of election observation; 160-170 more short-term observers of the CIS will shortly join us. On the election day the mission will analyze the monitoring and the following day it will publish its conclusion, which will not be changed, unlike the similar documents of other observation missions.
We will be extremely unbiased, there will be no biased approach", he said.
The following candidates will run for presidency on Feb 18: incumbent President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan, leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovhannisian, leader of Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan, leader of National Accord Party Aram Harutyunyan, former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikyan, political expert Andreas Ghukasyan and folklore specialist Vardan Sedrakyan.
