Armenia has adopted a sovereign decision to access the Customs Union, and that decision should be respected, French Ambassador to Armenia Henri Reynaud told media, Tuesday.
The ambassador said the decision met the interests of Armenia, and France respects its decision. The diplomat said that the leadership of Armenia constantly declares of its intention to maintain and deepen relations with the EU at all levels as long as it does not run contrary to the Customs Union. He said that the EU has not closed the doors before Armenia and Yerevan will continue the political cooperation within the Eastern Partnership project. As regards the opinion that the decision was forced by Russia, Ambassador Reynaud said he has no such information.
To recall, on September 3, 2013 in Moscow the Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin confirmed the aim of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation in the direction of further development of economic integration processes in the Eurasian territory. Afterwards, European officials claimed that Armenia cannot sign the Association Agreement with the EU at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November.
