Tbilisi. Historical changes have occurred in Georgia and the authorities of the country remain to be adherent to democratic values, President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili stated on Monday, June 23.
On Monday Margvelasjvili opened a conference of Chairpersons of Supreme Courts of countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which will last till June 25. Chairpersons of 14 countries participate in the conference, the aim of which is to exchange experience and deepen cooperation.
"A very important conference is held today as it serves improvement of the political and judicial systems. Our country and the public have experienced historical changes that concerned social institutions and political structures. We are continuing democratic reforms", Margvelashvili stressed.
He noted that the municipal elections on June 15 demonstrated to the whole world that "the Georgian authorities remain to be adherent to democratic values".
According to results of 2012 parliamentary elections, the Georgian Dream coalition came to power, removing the ruling party United National Movement, headed by then President Mikheil Saakashvili, from its position. A year later, the Georgian Dream's candidate Giorgi Margvelashvili won the presidential elections.
The final results of the municipal elections have not been announced yet, but, according to CEC preliminary data, the Georgian Dream leads. Meanwhile, the second round of elections of mayors will be held in 8 self-governed cities and heads of 11 district administrations in July.
